I got started shooting through a historical reenactment group. The first time I ever shot a gun it was a black powder flintlock muzzleloader. I was the cook for the group, but over the years they would let me borrow a muzzleloader and shoot with them. My husband and his father have been target shooters for years. So when I got married I would go shooting with them. They have a little bit of everything, rifles, pistols, shotguns. The gun club that we belong has trap shooting on the weekends so my husband and I have also been getting into trap shooting. I’m still very new at it, but my best score so far is 13 out of 25, which I’m told is not bad for a second attempt. In the pictures you’ll see my percussion cap muzzleloader, a gift from my husband before we were married. He knew that I had shot muzzleloaders in the past and thought I should have one of my own. The dress is one that I sewed completely by hand to wear to the reenactments; it is a replica of an 1830’s full high gown. The pattern was an authentic copy that’s why the selves are so big and not very practical for shooting, but historically accurate.
